A dental implant is a small, screw-shaped rod of titanium that is implanted into your jaw bone. This rod acts as an artificial tooth root and can support a single crown to replace one tooth.
Two implants can also be used to support a dental bridge, or a series of 4-6 implants can be used to support a set of implant-supported dentures. Implants are permanent, long-lasting, and durable, and the best way to replace missing teeth.v
We refer our patients to an experienced oral surgeon for this step. Your oral surgeon will develop a custom treatment plan through x-rays and digital imaging, and then place your implant. They will create an opening in the gums and jaw, and place the implant in the proper location. Then, the area will be stitched shut and cleaned, and you’ll be sent home to heal.
It takes about 2 weeks to heal from the initial placement process, but it will take 3-6 months for your implant to permanently bond to the jaw tissue. You’ll come to our office several times for follow-up appointments to check on your progress.
As your mouth heals, Dr. Enzweiler will begin taking images and impressions of your teeth to build your implant restoration, such as a dental crown to replace one tooth, or a dental bridge to replace multiple missing teeth.
Once your mouth is fully healed and your restoration has been built, you will schedule your final appointment at our office, and Dr. Enzweiler will place your restoration and provide you with instructions on how to care for your smile.
Partial dentures use multiple false teeth and a plastic and wire framework that snaps onto your remaining healthy teeth. They’re an affordable choice if you want to restore multiple missing teeth.Full dentures are meant to replace all of your teeth, and they require you to have any remaining teeth extracted, so they’re only recommended if you have already lost most or all of your teeth. They are also a very affordable, convenient way to get your smile back after a serious oral health issue.
We offer nitrous sedation sedation, which can help keep you feeling safe and comfortable throughout your appointments at our office. For more information, just ask about sedation when you schedule a consultation at Vivid Dentistry.
